Cleaning (manufacturing process)

With the cleaning as production processes in mind the standard DIN 8580, subclass 3.6, that is separating of unwanted layers from the surface of workpieces meant, such as for industrial parts washing . It is not to be confused with the cleaning of substances and mixtures of substances, which is one of the separation processes in process engineering . Another difference is cleaning for maintenance , which does not take place with regard to a production step, but to maintain functionality .

In the DIN 8592 standard, the cleaning processes are not classified according to their specific goal, but rather according to their physical operating principle . A distinction is made between cleaning blasting such as compressed air or steam, mechanical cleaning such as wiping or brushing, fluidic cleaning such as washing or ultrasonic cleaning , solvent cleaning , chemical cleaning such as leaching and thermal cleaning such as flaming or cleaning annealing.
