Reis Robotics is a German mechanical engineering and robotics company with headquarters in Obernburg am Main . After the takeover, it is now part of Kuka AG as KUKA Industries GmbH & Co. KG .

The formerly independent family company was founded in 1957 by Walter Reis. In 2010, a total of 18 companies in the Reis Group were combined under the Reis Group Holding GmbH & Co KG. Around 1100 people were employed worldwide. The largest company within the Reis Group was Reis GmbH & Co KG Maschinenfabrik (Reis robotics) at its main location in Obernburg, Bavaria. The machine factory had around 700 employees (around 35% of them engineers) who work in the field of development and production of automation systems and robots. A major field of activity of reis robotics was the development and implementation of complex automation systems for all areas of industrial production. The group also included other high-tech development companies in Germany. These group members specialized in specific areas of robot application and supplied their products to both reis robotics and companies outside the Reis group.

The industrial robots and robot controls developed by reis robotics can be used for all industrial production processes such as handling, welding, cutting, laser processing, but also in the production of cast and plastic parts, as well as in the production of solar modules.

Another focus of the company's product range is the construction of hydraulic spotting presses for tool and mold construction and the construction of deburring presses for cast deburring and machining. Since 2012, Reis Robotics has also been developing mold casting machines and automation equipment for the post-processing of cast parts for foundry technology, in which Reis has decades of experience. At the customer's request, Reis robotics also integrates other robot makes, such as B. ABB or KUKA in the automation systems.

In addition to the automotive industry, the company's customers include many medium-sized automotive suppliers and companies from various fields of technology. Furthermore, Reis Robotic is regarded as the world market leader in the automated production of solar modules . To date, the company has built around 13,000 robot systems and installed them worldwide.

On January 1, 2014, the company Kuka AG - with which Reis Robotics had had a closer cooperation for a long time - took over the company. For the time being, 51% of the company shares went to KUKA. In 2016, KUKA took over the remaining shares and became the sole owner.

The company's founder Walter Reis (born March 18, 1935 in Obernburg) received the Rudolf Diesel Medal in 2006 and the German Mechanical Engineering Prize in 2011 .

history

The company was founded in 1957 as a plastic injection molding company by Walter Reis. In 1961 hydraulic presses were developed. The first trimming press was built in 1967. The development of industrial robots began in 1973, and six years later the first robots were presented at trade fairs. Robots were used in industry for the first time in 1980, and in 1983 the development of the company's own robot controller ROBOTstar I began. The turnkey complete system was implemented in 1986, and new robot series were developed in 1992. In 1995 the first attempts with service robots began, e.g. B. Tank robots at Munich Airport. In 1999, the current ROBOTstar V control system was launched on the market. The new office in Obernburg am Main was inaugurated in 2000. Major projects were built in the automotive industry. In 2004 they developed high-precision gantry robots and entered the photovoltaic industry.

A new series of robots will be presented in 2006. In 2007, Reis became the market leader for automated PV module production, inaugurating the largest assembly hall with 6000 m². The branch in China was expanded in 2009 with production and system integration areas. In 2011 Reis got involved in the development of die casting machines, and in 2012 the capacities for automation in foundry technology and laser applications were expanded.

In 2014, 51% of the shares were taken over by Kuka AG . In 2016 Reis GmbH & CO. KG machine factory to KUKA Industries GmbH & CO. KG was renamed. In the same year, KUKA took over all of the remaining shares.
