The torre attack is an opening of the game of chess . The Torre attack is a closed game and is named after the Mexican chess player of the early 20th century Carlos Torre Repetto .
The basic position of the Torre attack arises after the moves
- 1. d2-d4 Ng8-f6
- 2. Ng1-f3 e7-e6
- 3. Lc1-g5

- 3.… c5 4. e3 Qb6 5. Nbd2!
- 3.… d5 4. e3 c5 5. Nbd2 Nbd7 6. c3 Bd6 7. Bd3
- 3.… h6 4. Bxf6 Qxf6
- 3.… Be7 4. Nbd2 b6 5. e4
Please note the opening trap after 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 e6 3. Bg5 c5 4. e3 Qb6 5. Nbd2 Qxb2 6. Bd3 d5 7. Rb1 Qc3 8. 0–0 !.
8.… c4 loses after 9. Bxc4! dxc4 10. Bxf6 gxf6 11. Ne4 Da5 12. Nxf6 + Ke7 13. Ne5 Nc6 14. Qh5 Nxe5 15. dxe5 Bg7 16.Rfd1 Kf8 17.Rd6 h6 18.Rbd1 Qc7 immediately.
In the ECO code , the move orders 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. Bg5, 2.… g6 3. Bg5 and 2.… b6 3. Bg5 are also classified as a torre attack. Openings with a similar structure are for example the Trompowsky opening , the Colle system and the London system .
