The travel world champion is generally referred to as the state that has the highest spending on international travel within a year . Private and business trips are taken into account. The travel world champion is usually determined in US dollars .

World travel champion in 2012

Until 2012, Germany was the travel world champion for years . In 2012, China secured the title for the first time, and Germany slipped to third place. Chinese travelers spent an estimated 90 billion US dollars in 2012, 25 percent more than in 2011. German travel budgets reached a high of 82 billion US dollars in 2012, an increase of 3.5 percent over the previous year.

One reason for this development is that prosperity continues to grow in China . Furthermore, Germany was overtaken by the United States in 2012, relegating it to third place. The weak euro is particularly responsible for this.

2013

In 2013, too, Germans spent 65 billion euros more than any other nation on travel, even if China could exceed this amount. However, information on this is not yet available.
