The Reitaku Middle and High School Mizunami ( Japanese 麗澤瑞 浪 中 学校 ・ 高等学校 , Reitaku Mizunami chugakkō kōtō gakkō ) is a boarding school located in the mountains near Mizunami in Gifu Prefecture in Japan . It is affiliated with Reitaku University in Chiba Prefecture .

history

The school was founded in 1960 as an offshoot of the Reitaku High School in Chiba. Reitaku Mizunami has been a co-educational boarding school since 1964 . In 1985 the school introduced the middle school. In addition to the boarding school students, students living on site have also been able to attend the school since 1994.

School philosophy

The philosophy of the school is based on the teaching of moralogy developed by Hiroike Chikuro .

The school consists of six interconnected buildings and offers a large library, music and science rooms, a tea ceremony room and an infirmary. There are 3 sports halls, including a state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool and a kendo practice room. There is also a cafeteria, two multi-purpose fields (soccer, athletics, etc.), a baseball field, a Kyūdō hall, a complete golf park, an orchard and two tennis courts.

In addition, there is the conference center for morality and a few other buildings in this context.

Boarding school

Reitaku Mizunami is one of the few boarding schools in Japan. Despite the increasing number of commuters (students living on site with their parents), the boarding school is an integral part of the education of the students.

The pupils live in the "houses" ( , ryō ) of the boarding school, grouped according to gender and school level . A teacher, the tutor, is assigned to each house. The number of students per house varies depending on the type of building, and the number of inhabited houses varies depending on the number of boarding students. The tutor lives with the students in the middle school buildings in order to make life easier for the mostly very young students (around 13-15 years old) without parents. In the high school houses he lives separately from the house of the students.

Life without parents comes with many duties. The students clean the houses themselves, maintain the green spaces and do their own laundry. Meals are eaten in the cafeteria. Living together with many other students, older as well as younger, from different families promotes social skills.

exchange

The exchange system is an attractive feature of the school compared to other schools in Japan. Pupils can take part in short exchanges (e.g. during holidays) to learn English and get to know another culture. For more interested students there is also the opportunity to do a one-year exchange with a partner school in the second year of high school.

Pupils from partner schools can also come to Reitaku Mizunami for an exchange. Usually they then live in boarding school.
