Riding warrior (British Museum no.GR 1904.7-3.1)
The horse warriors ( Engl. Mounted warrior , or horse and rider Bronze ) is a Greek antique statuette of bronze in the British Museum with the inventory number GR 1904.7-3.1. It was part of the Forman Collection. It was found in Armento and purchased in 1904.
The bronze is almost undamaged and covered with a patina . The horse and the detachable rider are modeled separately and made from solid cast. The rider is depicted as a young man without a beard. The helmet that encloses the whole head is decorated with engraved lotus flowers . The bridle is missing. The rider wears a short, belted chiton .
It is a remarkable example of Greek bronze art from the 6th century BC. Of the Corinthian type.
