description

The building was built in 1955/56 according to the plans of the architects Heinz Mersiowsky and Helmut Regel . The building consists of a three-storey administration building and a lecture hall building that can accommodate 300 students. The building was built in a “traditional way”. The jewel is the "strongly accentuated central projection with a triangular gable", which is reminiscent of the Dresden building tradition and the Dresden Baroque . The central risalit has a front length that is three window axes wide. There are arched doors on the ground floor. The two upper floors are combined by pilasters. At the corners of the risalit there is a pair of corner pilasters. The pilasters have an architrave with a triangular pediment. Pilaster strips structure the upper floors of the rest of the facade.

history

Carl Gustav Carus, namesake of the academy

The forerunners of the academy were the Collegium medico-chirurgicum (1748) and the Surgical-Medical Academy in Dresden (1815), at which Carl Gustav Carus was professor. The academy was located in the Kurländer Palais and later in the city hospital in the Dresden district of Johannstadt. On September 7, 1954, the "Carl Gustav Carus" Medical Academy was founded in Dresden and dissolved at the turn of the year 1990.
