Relax is a German music group that was mostly known in the 1980s.
Band history
The group was founded in 1981/82. Even before 1981 Peter Volkmann (drums) and Klaus Scheldt (bass) together with Dieter Klier (keyboard) and Peter Näder (guitar, vocals) founded the group SPY , which sang rock music with English lyrics. After Peter Näder left the group as the front man in 1981, the style of music also changed.
Relax recorded the single Radio hör'n in 1982 with the line-up of Peter Volkmann (vocals), Klaus Scheldt (bass) and Dieter Klier (keyboard) . This adaptation of the English-language song Video Life by Reinhold Bilgeri, which was 1 year older , was a "Bavarian dialect rock". Immediately after the first appearances, the trio found support from Claus Mathias (guitar) and Ernst "Örnie" Singerl (drums) and recorded tracks in a style similar to "Radio Hörn". Because i di mog and Marie were the first great successes.
In 1983 the band went on a big tour of Germany with Hubert Kah , Markus and Nena at the Levi's Rock Festival '83 .
In 1984 the group took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the singer Cosi (alias Ingrid Häfner) . Their title Oh, i woaß net (whether that works well) reached number 9. In the same year the group was changed for the first time: Dieter Klier left the band and was replaced by Felix Weber on the keyboard. In 1985 the band had one of the greatest successes of their career in Austria and southern Germany with the title A white sheet of paper .
After a creative break after the 1986 album ( Ich schenk dir mein Herz ) the next line-up for the band took place: Klaus Scheldt and Felix Weber left the band. In return, SPY singer Peter Näder got back on board, and Matthias Schmitt replaced Felix Weber on the keyboard. Felix Weber has lived in the USA since 2000, where he runs his own music studio. Claus Mathias only appeared as a composer and "guest musician" at Relax, as he also worked as a songwriter and producer for other artists.
On March 30, 1992 Relax appeared in the German preliminary decision Ein Lied für Malmö for the Eurovision Song Contest . Her song Blue Farewell River received no points from the eleven-member jury and took fourth place in the final bill.
In 1993 the Koch music company released the album Ganz relaxed with the single I hob di so like . The band had meanwhile become a trio, as Ernst “Oernie” Singerl had left the band. Since then, her musical direction has also developed more towards popular hits. In 1996, Relax finally split up.
In 2006, for the 25th anniversary, the former Relax guitarist Claus Mathias, also the author and composer of several successful Relax titles , released the album Lebensg'fühl with a new line-up , which contains all the great Relax hits as new productions.
In 2010 the “original voice” Peter Volkmann reappeared after a long break and also with a new line-up, with the album Immer sche relaxed bleim as Relax .
