Rema (born May 1, 2000 as Divine Ikubor in Benin City ) is a Nigerian singer and rapper. His music is assigned to the Afrobeat . In 2019 he signed a recording deal with the Jonzing World label , a subsidiary of Mavin Records . He gained fame in 2019 when Barack Obama released his song "Iron Man" as part of his summer playlist.

Divine Ikubor grew up in a Christian family in Benin City . In 2018 he released a freestyle to the song " Gucci Gang " by Nigerian musician D'Prince, which became very popular. D'Prince noticed him and had Rema fly to Lagos to offer him a record deal. He signed this with D'Princes Label Jonzing World in 2019. Rema released his debut album "Rema" in 2019, after which it landed at number 1 on the Apple Music Charts in Nigeria .

Music genre

Rema's songs combine trap and afrobeat with eccentric melodies. The lyrics are in Pidgin English , Yoruba and Igbo . Even language without semantics is used to a Vibe express.
