The Rosa Panduro district is located in the Putumayo province in the Loreto region in the far northeast of Peru . The district was formed on April 10, 2014 from parts of the Putumayo district. On May 5, 2014, the Rosa Panduro district was spun off from Maynas Province and added to the newly established Putumayo Province. The district was named after Rosa Panduro (1918–1989), a war heroine in the Peruvian-Ecuadorian War .

The district area is 7157 km². The 2017 census counted 603 residents. The district administration is located in the 134  m high village of Santa Mercedes with 290 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santa Mercedes is located 110 km northwest of the provincial capital San Antonio del Estrecho .

Geographical location

The Rosa Panduro district is located in the central west of the Putumayo province. The Río Putumayo , border river to the northeast and east of Colombia , runs along the district and state border to the southeast. Its right tributaries, Río Campuya and Río Ere, cross the district in an easterly direction.

The district of Rosa Panduro borders in the southwest on the districts Putumayo, Napo and district Torres Causana (the last two districts mentioned belong to the province of Maynas), in the northwest on the district Teniente Manuel Clavero and in the northeast and east on Colombia.
