San Antonio del Estrecho is the capital of the Putumayo province in the Loreto region in the far north of Peru . The city is also the administrative seat of the Putumayo District . The city had 3,056 inhabitants at the 2017 census, 10 years earlier the population was 2902.
The city of San Antonio del Estrecho is located at an altitude of 116 m in the Peruvian Amazon lowlands on the right bank of the Río Putumayo . This forms the northern border between Peru and Colombia . San Antonio del Estrecho is just 160 km north-northeast of the regional capital Iquitos .
