The Yaguas district is located in the Putumayo province in the Loreto region in the far northeast of Peru . The district was formed on April 10, 2014 from parts of the Putumayo district. On May 5, 2014, the Yaguas District was spun off from Maynas Province and added to the newly established Putumayo Province. The district area is 17,927 km². The 2017 census counted 1,452 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the 107  m high village of Remanso with 227 inhabitants (as of 2017). Remanso is located 165 km east of the provincial capital San Antonio del Estrecho .

Geographical location

The Yaguas district is located in the far east of Putumayo Province. The Río Putumayo , border river to Colombia in the north , runs along the district and state border to the east. Its right tributaries Río Yaguas (in the upper reaches Río Yahuillo) and Río Cotuhe cross the district in an easterly direction.

The district of Yaguas borders Colombia to the north and east, the Ramón Castilla , San Pablo and Pebas districts to the south (all three in the Mariscal Ramón Castilla province ) and the Putumayo district to the west.
