The Maynas Province is located in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The province has an area of 76,167 km². At the 2017 census, 479,866 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 62,165. The administrative seat is in the city of Iquitos on the Amazon .
Geographical location
The province of Maynas is located in the northeast of the Loreto region in the Amazon lowlands . The south-east of the province is traversed by the Amazon. The province has a maximum longitudinal extent in NNW-SSE direction of about 480 km and a width of 140 km. The north of the province is traversed by the Río Itaya and Río Nanay and the Río Napo .
In the northwest the province of Maynas extends to the state border with Ecuador . In the northeast, the province borders on the province of Putumayo , in the southeast on the province of Mariscal Ramón Castilla , in the south on the province of Requena and in the west on the province of Loreto .
Administrative division
Maynas Province is divided into eleven districts. The district of Iquitos is the seat of the provincial administration.
