The Datem del Marañón province is located in the Loreto region in northern Peru . The province has an area of 46,610 km². In the 2017 census, 48,482 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 49,571. Administrative center is the most Río Marañón location San Lorenzo .
Geographical location
The province of Datem del Marañón is located in the west of the Loreto region in the Amazon lowlands . In the west, the province extends to the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . The province has a maximum length in north-south direction of about 335 km and a width of 120 km. The province is traversed by the Río Morona (in the west) and Río Pastaza (in the east) in a southerly direction. The south is traversed by the Río Marañón in an easterly direction. Its right tributaries, Río Apaga, Río Potro and Río Cahuapanas, drain the extreme south of the province.
The province of Datem del Marañón borders the provinces of Loreto and Alto Amazonas in the east, the San Martín region in the south, the Amazon region in the west and Ecuador in the north .

The Datem del Marañón Province is divided into six districts. The district of Barranca is the seat of the provincial administration.
