Eponym Rembrandt van Rijn

Rembrandt is an impact crater on the planet Mercury with a diameter of 715 kilometers. It is the second largest impact basin after Caloris Planitia on Mercury and one of the larger craters in the solar system . On October 6, 2008, the crater was discovered by the MESSENGER space probe during its second flyby. The crater is 3.9 billion years old and was created during the late heavy bombardment.

The crater is named after the Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669).
