Remedius
Remedius , also Remigius (* in the 8th century; † on June 27th - probably 820 ), was Bishop of Chur and "praesides Rhaetiae" . He was the last owner of both the diocese of Chur and the county of Chur.
Life
Remedius probably came from the circle of Alcuin , a scholar and most important advisor to Charlemagne . Remedius became Bishop of Chur around 790/800, probably installed by Charlemagne. He was the last bishop of Chur, who was also “praesides Rhaetiae” and thus held the secular and spiritual authority in Churrätien.
His judicial involvement has been proven by numerous documents. It is assumed that the work " Capitula Remedii " , a collection of Roman and Alemannic law, came from his pen. He is also credited with the “Codex Sangall.348” , the so-called “ Redemius sacramentary ” with prayers and chants.
After increasing unrest in Churrätien , Emperor Charlemagne sent a commission of inquiry in 811, which criticized Remedius' secular administration. The emperor put Roderich as secular administrator ("comes") and appointed Viktor III. von Chur as successor in the episcopate. In a petition from the year 821 it is recorded: "Quae distractio vel praeda post illam divisionem, quam bonae memoriae genitor vester inter episcopatum et comitatum fieri praecepit - subito a Roderico et suo pravo socio Herloino post acceptum comitatum facta est et adhuc ita permanet" ( cf. Ambrosius Eichhorn , episcopatus Curiensis pag. 14 of the Codex probationum)
