René Meulensteen (born March 25, 1964 in Beugen ) is a Dutch football coach .

Career

During his time as a player, Meulensteen was hired as a youth coach at NEC Nijmegen in 1990 and stayed there for three years. After six years with the Qatar U-18 national team , he trained for one season each at al-Gharafa Sports Club and al-Sadd Sport Club . In 2001 he moved to Manchester United and coached the youth teams there for five years and the second team in 2005/06. In June 2006 he became head coach of the Danish first division club Brøndby IF . On January 18, 2007, he returned to Manchester United as an assistant coach for six years. For the 2013/14 season he moved to Anzhi Makhachkala and assisted Guus Hiddink . When he was released after two games, Meulensteen was head coach, but was released again after 16 days. He returned to England in November 2013 and became the head coach of Fulham FC . On February 14, 2014 Meulensteen was replaced by Felix Magath .

successes

As assistant coach at Sir Alex Ferguson's side , Meulensteen won the Premier League with Manchester United in 2009, 2011 and 2013 and the FA Community Shield in 2008, 2010 and 2011 . In 2009 and 2010 he won the League Cup , in 2008 the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup .
