Renate Brausewetter

Renate Brausewetter (born October 1, 1905 in Málaga , Spain ; † August 20, 2006 in Linz am Rhein ) was a German actress of the silent film era .

Life

Brausewetter, who was born in Málaga, Spain , moved to Berlin with her family when she was nine . Through her older brother, the actor Hans Brausewetter , she made contact with leading intellectuals of her time and gained access to the world of theater and film. She made her screen debut in 1925 as an extra in Die joudlose Gasse .

She then played notable roles in, among others, Georg Wilhelm Pabst's Secrets of a Soul and in Gerhard Lamprecht's films Hanseaten and Der alten Fritz . With the dawn of the sound film age , Brausewetter's acting career ended because she did not get involved with the new medium, instead retreating into private life and devoting herself to her two first children.

After the divorce from her husband, the chemist Hubert Wagner, she lived alone with her three children in Berlin from 1944. In 1950 she stood in front of the camera again in The Staircase , directed by Alfred Braun .

In 1972, after a serious illness, Renate Brausewetter moved to Linz am Rhein near her daughter and two sons and lived in her own apartment. In 2003 she moved to an old people's home, where she celebrated her 100th birthday on October 1, 2005.

Brausewetter died on August 20, 2006. She had wished to be buried in the family grave next to two other brothers in the historic English cemetery in the center of her hometown. The urn was buried there on October 1st, 2006, on her 101st birthday.

One of her sons was the actor and voice actor Rudolf Wagner-Brausewetter , who played the part of the narrator in the cartoon Peter Pan (1953) .
