Life

Kaymer was born in Aachen in 1957 and studied architecture with a focus on urban planning at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in her hometown . After 1983 there in history of urban development to Dr.-Ing. after receiving her doctorate, three years later she took up the post of town planning councilor and deputy head of the development and planning office of the city of Stolberg . Within three years she took over the management of the office as well as the position of town planning director.

In February 2006 she was appointed curator for the city of Cologne , succeeding Ulrich Krings, who has retired . While she had earned a good reputation in Stolberg as an advocate of monument protection, her time in Cologne was highly controversial. On the one hand from a professional point of view, because they are not sufficiently committed to the preservation of monuments and they give preference to the economic interests of investors and on the other hand in questions of personnel management. Kaymer made headlines several times when she dismissed employees without consulting the staff council and for sometimes unreliable reasons. Over time, the resistance in her work environment increased and after she had been absent for several weeks due to illness, she was declared unfit for work by a medical certificate and retired on June 1, 2012. Her successor was Thomas Werner in December 2012 after six months of temporary support .
