Renate Schmidt (politician, 1948)

Renate Schmidt (* 4. June 1948 in Berlin ) is a German politician of the SPD and was from 1998 to 2011 Member of the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

In 1966 she graduated from high school with vocational training as a mechanical draftswoman. In 1969 Schmidt became an engineer for plastic technology and worked as an engineer at VEB Orbitaplast Weißandt-Gölzau until 1990 . From 1990 to 2003 she worked as a union secretary at IG BCE .

Renate Schmidt is divorced and has one child.

Political party

In 1991 Schmidt joined the SPD. From 1993 until the merger of the district associations in 2006, she was a member of the Köthen district board .

From 1994 until the district was dissolved, Schmidt was a member of the Köthen district council. She was a member of the state parliament from the 3rd to the 5th electoral term and represented the constituency of Köthen . Schmidt represented her group in the Committee on Education, Science and Culture and in the Committee on Petitions.
