Renna Kellaway

Renna Kellaway (born October 18, 1934 in Durban ) is a British pianist and music teacher.

The daughter of British parents grew up in South Africa. At the age of seventeen she came to Amsterdam and became a piano student of Johannes Röntgen and, on his recommendation, Franz Osborn in London, a student of Artur Schnabel . She then performed as a concert pianist and chamber musician in Europe, Asia, the USA and South Africa, gave master classes and was a juror in piano competitions.

From 1980 Kellaway was a teacher at the School of Keyboard Studies of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), whose director she became in 1992. In 1985 she founded the Lake District Summer Music , a festival that combines performances by internationally recognized musicians with the training of young talent. At the RNCM she founded the Glories of the Keyboard festival in 1995 and a piano trios competition in 1999. In 2009 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire , in 2012 she honored Cumbria with the Lifetime Achievement Award . Kellaway was married to the composer and music teacher John Manduell .
