history

During the government crisis of 2010/2011, she fought on the side of Laurent Gbagbo . When the Independent Electoral Commission first tried to announce the results of the 2010 presidential election , Republican Guard security forces were on hand. They did not intervene when a supporter of Gbagbo forcibly prevented the spokesman for the CEI from reading out the first partial results. Then the Republican Guard vacated the building.

That spoke of killings and abductions by Liberian and Angolan mercenary troops. These were allegedly logistically supported by Gbagbo's elite Republican Guard soldiers.

In December 2011 the UNHCHR spoke of killings and kidnappings by Liberian and Angolan mercenary troops with logistical support from the Republican Guard.

ONUCI chief Choi Young Jin said on April 1, 2011 that most of Gbagbo's troops had deserted. Gbagbo, in his opinion, only commanded the Republican Guard and its special forces at the time. On the weekend from April 2nd to 3rd, 2011, the Republican Guard managed to recapture the building of the radio station Radiodiffusion-Télévision ivoirienne from the Forces republicaines de Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI).
