The Rescue Rock (from English rescue , rescue, liberation ' ) is a cliff rock washed over by the sea off the north coast of South Georgia . It is 1 km northeast of Skua Island in front of the entrance to the Bay of Isles .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it between 1929 and 1930. It is named after the fact that the crew of the whaling ship Southern Shore sighted a flag hoisted on Skua Island when passing this rock in December 1929, which led to the rescue of the scientists stranded in Camp Bay .
