The Resolution 777 of the UN Security Council dealt with the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and the regulation of their successor. It stated that "the state formerly known as the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia" had ceased to exist. With reference to Resolution 757 , which rejected the claim by the former Yugoslav republics of Serbia and Montenegro to an automatic legal successor to the SFRY, it also stipulated that the "Federal Republic of Yugoslavia", founded in April 1992 and consisting only of these two republics UN membership of the SFRY could not automatically continue. Like the other successor states of Yugoslavia, it should therefore apply for membership in the UN. She should not attend the UN General Assembly . The question should also be referred to the 47th General Assembly of the UN, which met in September 1992, which confirmed the resolution.
India , Zimbabwe and China abstained from voting.
As a result, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was prevented from attending meetings of participants in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights , the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women .
The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was only accepted as a member of the UN in 2000.
