The ADAC retro rally series (abbreviated RRS ) is a regularity rally series that was launched in 2006 by the sports department of ADAC Pfalz e. V. was founded. In the retro rally series, regularity events are held for vehicles that are at least 20 years old. In retro rallies, achieving top speeds or best times is not important.

The regularity tests take place as part of the best time rallies. The cordoned off special stages (SS) are driven at an average speed of a maximum of 50 km / h (without secret time controls). At the events it is not a question of achieving top speeds or best times.

history

In 2001, the Historic Rallye Cup, the first German target-time regularity rally series, was founded in Germany. Here the later founders of the RRS Klaus F. Raschig (Ludwigshafen) and Helmut Rotzal (Limburgerhof) won the championship in 2005. In 2006, Helmut Rotzal, head of the motorsport department of the ADAC Pfalz, founded the retro rally series together with Werner Mayer, Andreas Schwalie and Daniel Keller.

In the first year there are 3 runs in which starter numbers of 5 to 10 teams are achieved. In 2006, Herbert Schmidt was the first champion to have his Porsche 914 . 2007 is already planned with 6 races, but the organizers are still having problems to reconcile 2 rallies during one event. Herbert Schmidt confidently repeats last year's championship victory. In 2008, 7 races will be run for the first time and with up to 36 teams starting the series, the series is becoming more and more established in southern Germany. Edwin Bingel and Martin Bernhard from Nidda on their Opel Ascona 400 are champions. With 8 races, 2009 is already into the 4 season and with changes such as: B. a permanent RRS representative, changes are also carried out by the organizer. At the start of the season of the Southern Wine Road Rally, a new record was set with a field of 59 participants. Herbert Schmidt can retract his 2 championship titles after 2006.

In 2010 the big upheaval is due, for the first time an RRS-Nord and an RRS-Süd are advertised in order to establish the retro rallies in the north as well. At the Rallye Südliche Weinstraße, the entry list will be closed for 80 starters, as more participants can no longer be brought through the event without any problems. Thomas Gutheil becomes the champion in a Toyota Celica , who can set himself apart from the competition without overall victory but with consistently good placements. A total of 171 drivers and co-drivers were rated in 2010.
In 2011 the RRS will be expanded to include a license requirement and a permanent technical inspector and will further improve the course of the event.
