The Paramedic Act (RettAssG) was a German federal law on the profession of paramedic .

According to Article 74, Paragraph 1, No. 19 of the Basic Law , the Federation has legislative competence for admission to medical and other medical professions. With regard to the rescue service, the federal government has created the law on the profession of paramedic (RettAssG).

It provided the framework for vocational training to become a paramedic and protects the job title “paramedic” as it is, because the use of this title requires permission in accordance with § 1 RettAssG. Someone who calls himself a paramedic without a permit (“state recognition as a paramedic”) commits an administrative offense that can be punished with a fine of up to 2,500 euros ( Section 12 RettAssG).

The law was supplemented by a training and examination ordinance (RettAssAPrV).

On May 25, 2012, the federal government published the draft bill of the Emergency Paramedic Act (NotSanG). The RettAssG expired on December 31, 2014.
