The Reudnitzer Park (sometimes park on Täubchenweg ) is a park in the district Reudnitz in Leipzig , which is housed in a former cemetery.

history

In 1843, the Reudnitz community laid out a cemetery south of Täubchenweg, at that time still in an open field outside of closed buildings. Because of the strong increase in population in the second half of the 19th century, it soon became too small. In addition, the development of the area began. Therefore, in 1878, the Neue Reudnitzer Friedhof was created outside the city on Oststrasse, which is now called the Ostfriedhof. The previous one was now called the Alter Reudnitzer Friedhof.

The intention soon arose to convert it into a park, but we had to wait for decades. In a city map from 1938, the area is shown as a cemetery with two large north-south axes.

The redevelopment of the park began after the Second World War , and it received its dominant appearance to this day in the 1950s. In recent years it has been upgraded by adding sports facilities.

layout

The park has only two road boundaries, in the north the Taubchenweg and in the east Sigismundstraße, from which it is largely shielded by bush planting. There are two entrances from each of these streets and one more from the south via Fröschelstraße. The park is bounded in the south by the building of the New Apostolic Church in Leipzig-Mitte, which was built in 1911/1912, and in the west by a day-care center .

The park is crossed by a network of paths connecting the entrances. The tree population shows a diverse species and a mixed age structure. As the main ingredient are common ash , hornbeam , black locust and mountain Pointed , field and silver maple represented. There are old trees from the cemetery period and from the 1950s, but also numerous new plantings.

A skater area with a street ball basket and a so-called climbing area with a wooden walkway and climbing stones invite you to exercise, especially for young people and children.

There is a short connection to the larger Lene-Voigt-Park via Sigismundstraße .
