Sailors and other friends of recreational locomotion on the water understand an area to be a certain body of water or part of a body of water that differs from other areas either by different traffic regulations or geographical distance or both, and on which it is customary and permitted, the respective shape of water sports , for example

• Kite surfing
• Paddle
• rowing
• Drive a motor boat
• sailing
• Water-skiing
• Windsurfing , whereby surfers mostly speak of the surf spot

It can not only be about inland waters or coastal waters, but, contrary to what a navigator understands by area, it can mean the open sea in the middle of the Atlantic .
