Revision (librarianship)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A revision in a library is used to check ( inventory ) the actual library holdings . Revision is one of the tasks of library administration . As part of the overhaul, losses and damage can be identified and the layout in the magazine , open access area and reading rooms can be checked and changed.

A revision can identify damaged media and media endangered by use and archiving and the necessary measures (prophylactic or therapeutic) can be initiated to avoid a higher degree of damage. The access directory of the media and the location catalog or the signature file are required for the revision . The results (loss, damaged, missing or revoked from use) are entered there.

As with other forms of inventory, there are three types of revision: total revision, partial revision and ongoing revision.
