Walther Umstätter

Walther Umstätter (born June 12, 1941 in Ploieşti , Kingdom of Romania ; † March 6, 2019 in Altlandsberg ) was Professor of Library and Information Science at the Institute for Library and Information Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Walther Umstätter wrote his diploma thesis in 1970 at the Institute for Plant Physiology of the Free University of Berlin with the title Electrophoretic Investigations on Freshly Explanted Tissue Cultures of Daucus carota L. with different morphological development .

In 1978 he received his doctorate from the Department of Biology at the Free University of Berlin on the differentiation of cell clusters from Daucus carota L. on synthetic nutrient media .

From 1975 to 1982 he was head of the online literature department at the Ulm University Library and from 1982 professor for documentation, online retrieval and bibliography at the FHBD Cologne (today: Department of Library and Information Science at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences ). Since 1994 he has been a professor specializing in documentation at the Institute for Library Science (since 2005 Institute for Library and Information Science) at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He retired on October 1, 2006.
