TAME - Línea Aérea del Ecuador was an Ecuadorian airline based in Quito and based on the Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal Sucre .
history
In 1962 the Ecuadorian Air Force organized an inland transport service to improve the country's poor infrastructure . The name TAME is derived from T ransportes A éreos M ilitares E cuatorianos . The airline called Transportes Aereos Militares started its first connection to the remote areas of the country that were not served by other airlines with two Douglas DC-3s . This also included the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific , which were now served once or twice a month. Until the introduction of the Douglas DC-6 , the DC-3 received additional tanks in order to be able to fly the long distance.
In 1970 the airline received Hawker Siddeley HS 748 turboprop aircraft , which replaced some of the DC-3's in the fleet. However, the last DC-3s did not leave the fleet until the early 1990s. In the same year, 1970, TAME was formally dissolved from the military and converted into a public company. Nevertheless, it remained state property. In 1972 TAME took over the regional route network of the Compania Ecuatoriana de Aviación and used aircraft of the types Lockheed L-188 Electra and Douglas DC-7 .
In 1980, the first jet aircraft came to the fleet with a Boeing 727-200 and the following year, 1981, a Boeing 737-200 . In 1984 and 1985 used Boeing 727-100s were added.
In 1992 the first international destination was flown to the city of Cali . In the period that followed, TAME also served as a feeder for Air France and Lufthansa from Caracas , and the company flew to Havana and Miami . In the 1990s, TAME had a number of serious accidents with their machines. The airline's safety standard has been discussed for a long time.
After TAME had already received two Embraer 170s , the Ecuadorian airline received a new Embraer 190 in June 2006 , from which two more units have since been taken over. The modernization of the fleet was completed with the phasing out of the last Boeing 727-200 in mid-2009.
The society is still run by the military to this day. Although it mainly employs civilian personnel, the vast majority of management positions are occupied by Air Force officers.
TAME Airlines applied for the liquidation of the company in May 2020 and will therefore be dissolved. It will cease flight operations in May 2020.
