Aero Sarayaku is an Ecuadorian airline with headquarters in Shell .

history

Aero Sarayaku began flight operations in November 2015.

The airline used 600,000 of the $ 1.3 million the indigenous community of Sarayacu received as compensation for illegal exploration by oil companies. The airline is therefore jointly owned by the residents, who otherwise can only get to other places on the river.

Individual tickets cannot be bought, but a flight, i.e. the entire aircraft, has to be rented and it is expected that unpaid freight or passengers will also be taken, because community work is an integral part of everyday life in the communities of the Amazon region . Despite emergency flights that were carried out on their own account, often with snakebites, the flight operations were able to finance themselves in the first year.

Destinations

A total of around 400 runways are flown to, usually in settlements that are not connected to a road network. The base is in Shell , which was founded in 1937 for the purpose of the oil industry . Many flights go to the provincial capital, Puyo .

fleet

From the beginning, two Cessna aircraft were used, a Cessna T206H and a Cessna 182 .
