The Aeropuerto Mariscal Lamar is the airport of the Ecuadorian provincial capital Cuenca .
It is the third most important airport in Ecuador and can be reached in 35 minutes by plane from Quito and 20 minutes from Guayaquil. The connections are operated by the airlines TAME , AeroGal and LAN Ecuador .
The airport has a terminal that was expanded from 5000 to 7400 m² and opened in September 2008. The expansion at the airport cost $ 1.2 million.
Incidents
- On 17 July 1946 a flew Curtiss C-46 D of the Ecuadorian ANDESA ( air vehicle registration HC SCA ) in the go-attempt after a failed approach to the airport Cuenca 1.6 km past the airport into a hill. The machine from Guayaquil was flown by two hired US pilots. All 30 occupants, 3 crew members and 27 passengers, were killed.
- On June 3, 1970, a Vickers Viscount 745D of the Ecuadorian SAETA (HC-ART) rolled over the end of the runway while landing at Cuenca airport and was irreparably damaged. People were not harmed.
