Revision lock
As Maintenance cover (formerly emergency seal) are referred to special locking gates for the drainage of a lock used in revision or repair work.
In modern locks, they are often panel locks that are lifted from above into recesses in the lock chamber provided on site and seal the chamber against the water . After the remaining water has been pumped out of the lock chamber, the chamber is drained and both the chamber itself and the lock gates and other technical equipment can be cleaned, inspected, overhauled or repaired.
Other designs are stop logs or needle locks .
