Rex Weyler

Rex Weyler (* 10. September 1947 in Denver , Colorado ) is an US-American - Canadian environmentalist, author, journalist and Greenpeace activist.

Weyler studied theoretical physics, mathematics, engineering and history at Occidental College in Los Angeles . In 1969, he and 41 fellow students were suspended for a semester for holding a sit-in against requisitions by the US military on campus. Weyler did not return to university, but began traveling, taking photos and published his first book, I Took a Walk Today , with David Totheroh , a pacifist discourse with photographs from a winter in the Yosemite Valley , as early as 1969 .

Between 1973 and 1982, Weyler served as the director of the original Greenpeace Foundation, photographer, reporter, and editor of Greenpeace's Chronicles magazine . In 1979 he was a co-founder of Greenpeace International.

In 1975 Weyler took part in Greenpeace's first anti- whaling campaign. His photographs and reports of the early actions have appeared in National Geographic, Smithsonian, New York Times Magazine, and other publications around the world. His book The Jesus Sayings: The Quest for His Authentic Messay was nominated for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize in 1990 .
