Reciprocity (Latin reciprocus , `` in relation to one another '', `` reciprocally '') denotes or refers to:
Human behaviour:
- Reciprocity (sociology) , reciprocity in social exchange
- Indirect reciprocity , altruistic action to strengthen one's own reputation
- Strong reciprocity , altruistic reward and punishment
In biology:
- Reciprocal altruism , altruistic behavior that is reciprocated
- the first of Mendel's rules (uniformity)
In theology:
- reciprocal immanence , mutual in-being of God and man through Jesus Christ
In international law:
- a general principle in international law, according to which states treat each other equally, see reciprocity (international law)
- In international trade law, this principle refers to the equivalence of mutually granted trade advantages and is one of the principles of the World Trade Organization
In mathematics:
- if the reciprocal of a number is reciprocal to this, there is reciprocity or inverse proportionality between two values whose product is constant (e.g. between light intensity and exposure time, see Bunsen-Roscoe law )
