Rhönlied

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rhönlied is a regional anthem created by Andreas Fack from 1912 .

history

In the summer of 1912, Andreas Fack recited the verses of his newly written Rhön song to his regulars at what was then the “Hotel zum Hirsch” in Kaltennordheim . They were enthusiastic and immediately set to music. The new Rhönlied was drunk with Kaltennordheimer beer. The next morning, however, the piano player had "lost" the melody because of the alcohol consumption, which was then put together again the following evening with the help of Andreas Fack.

text

I know basalt mountain heights
In the heart of the German Gau'n,
Not huge, but enchantingly beautiful,
Always want to look!
And don't you know the beautiful mountains,
obey the friend who speaks to you:

Refrain:
Put on your hiking boots,
And pick up your rucksack,
And throw off your worries,
March up to the Rhön!

On high mats, the sunshine
blows around the cooling air,
And the view of the world is
clear. How wonderful to walk up there!
And don't you know the wonderful mats,
obey the friend who speaks to you:

Refrain:
Put on your hiking boots,
And pick up your rucksack,
And throw off your worries,
March up to the Rhön!

I know streams flow clearly
through forests and meadows,
the trout flock leaps up so boldly
To the delight of anglers!
And don't you know the Rhön trout, obey
the friend who speaks to you:

Refrain:
Put on your hiking boots,
And pick up your rucksack,
And throw off your worries,
March up to the Rhön!

I could still tell you a lot
and sing about the mountain and the valley,
But no, I spare myself a lot of words
And just ask one more thing:
Yes, don't you know the wonderful Rhön yet,
Obey the friend who speaks to you:

Refrain:
Put on your hiking boots,
And pick up your rucksack,
And throw off your worries,
March up to the Rhön!
