The Rhein-Main International Montessori School (RIMS) was from 2004 to 2015 in addition to the Philipp-Reis-Schule (PRS) is one of two secondary schools in Friedrichsdorf . The RIMS was independent and was the youngest school in town. As one of the few international Montessori schools in Germany, it combined the entire spectrum of Montessori education from children's homes to primary schools and high schools under one roof. With the exception of the upper school level, the RIMS worked according to the standards of the Association Montessori Internationale , a kind of seal of approval for Montessori institutions.

School board

The RIMS was inaugurated in 2004. Planning began in 2002. At that time, it was sponsored and designed by the von Walderdorff couple and the RIMS eV supporting association . It was also directed by the latter. The association was founded on February 18, 2003 as a non-profit association . The board supported the headmaster in his position. He was responsible for the finances, extensions and the hiring of the teaching staff. The members of the association's board were elected for three years.

school

The RIMS consisted of a children's house, a primary school and a secondary school. A grammar school upper level was introduced in the 2008/2009 school year; however, there was no teaching according to the Montessori method.

The school had never been recognized as an authorized school, which is why the Abitur exams had to be taken at state schools. In 2014, the school hit the headlines because half of the students failed their high school exams. Since the school did not offer the opportunity to acquire the secondary school leaving certificate after the 10th grade, the failed high school graduates were left with no qualifications. In the following school year 2014/15 the number of pupils collapsed, which contributed to the closure of the school in summer 2015.

financing

The RIMS was a substitute school . It was financed by parental contributions and funds from the Hessian replacement school financing.

building

The RIMS had two buildings: the main building (Hugenottenstrasse 119) is part of the former Garnier Institute , the larger auxiliary building was completed in 2006.

main building

From summer 2007, the children's house groups and primary school classes were located in the main building. It consisted of four floors and a basement, which housed a dance school and which was later used for the upper level after some renovations. The teachers' room, secretariat, conference room and auditorium were on the ground floor. There were also the offices of the administrative and educational director here. The primary school classrooms were on the first to third floors.

Outbuildings

The secondary classes, the auditorium and the kitchen were located in the adjoining building.

Subsequent use

King's College has been using the rooms as a school since August 2018 .
