The Rheinisch-Westfälische Wirtschaftsbiographien (RWWB) have been published since 1932 and have so far been published in 18 volumes. The publishers are the Westphalian Historical Commission , the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv zu Köln ( Rheinisch-Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv zu Köln) foundation, the Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv foundation and the Economics and Business Association in the Rheinisch-Westfälisches industrial area. The volumes are published by Aschendorff Verlag .
Content of the RWWB
In the RWWB, entrepreneur biographies from the 18th to the 20th century are published. Four volumes were published by the end of World War II, and another 14 volumes have followed since 1953. Volumes 1 and 2 as well as 4 to 11 are laid out in the form of "Life Pictures", Volume 3 deals with mining entrepreneurial families . The concept was changed with volumes 12 and 13. For the first time, these two volumes were dedicated to one economic area: Cologne . The following volumes were also themed volumes: 14: Bielefeld , 15: Chamber of Commerce Secretaries and Syndici , 16: The West Munsterland textile industry and its entrepreneurs, 17: Engineers in the Ruhr area and 18 Bergisch-Märkische entrepreneurs of early industrialization .
A total of 242 articles with 263 biographies by 170 authors have been published so far. Six personalities received two biographies, older and more recent. The textile industry is most clearly represented with 45 biographies, closely followed by mining with 34 and iron and steel with 30 articles. 13 of the biographies came from mechanical engineering , twelve from the chemical industry , 19 from retail and eleven from banks .
