Ulrich S. Soénius (born November 26, 1962 in Cologne ) is a German historian , archivist , cultural politician and deputy chief executive of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

Life

After attending the Humboldt Gymnasium in Cologne, Soénius graduated from the Deutschordens-Wohnstift Konrad Adenauer e. V., Cologne-Neubrück, the civil service. He then studied Medieval and Modern History, Library Science and Political Science as well as economics for a few semesters at the University of Cologne . In 1991 he graduated from the master - exam , in 1999 he received his doctorate at Jost Dülffer Dr. phil.

Soénius has been employed by the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv foundation since July 1985 , initially as a student assistant, since April 1, 1990 as a research assistant, since January 1, 1999 as deputy director and since January 1, 2000 as director and member of the board. At the same time, he was a member of the management of the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry from March 1, 2000 to June 30, 2007, with overall responsibility for the business library of the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce and cultural policy / culture industry.

Since July 1, 2007, Soénius has been managing director of the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce , business area location policy , in personal union with the office at the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Wirtschaftsarchiv Foundation . As of July 1, 2014, he was appointed Deputy General Manager.

Offices in associations and clubs

Soénius heads the “Culture and Creative Industries” working group and the “Aviation Industry ” working group at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and is a member of the Board of Directors of the German Airports Association (ADV). He is a knowledgeable resident in the urban development committee of the City Council of Cologne and a member of the board of trustees of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. Together with Paul Bauwens-Adenauer , he runs the entrepreneur for the Cologne region. V., who commissioned the urban development master plan for downtown Cologne. As a member of the advisory board, he advises the German Dance Archive Cologne, the DOMiD - Documentation Center and Museum on Migration in Germany eV and the city of Cologne on the reconstruction of the historical archive of the city of Cologne. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Hanseatic Economic Archive Foundation , Hamburg, as well as the chairman of the board of trustees of the City Memory Foundation, which is supposed to help finance the restoration of the archived material from the historical archive of the city of Cologne.

Soénius is a member of the board of the Gesellschaft für Rheinische Geschichtskunde , and he oversees the Cologne History Society and the Economic History Society of Cologne as a managing board member.

He is active in Cologne's cultural institutions as vice chairman of Comedia Colonia e. V. and the Kölner Kulturpaten e. V.

In addition, he works on a voluntary basis as chairman of the board of trustees of the Stegerwald Foundation and the administrative board of Köln-Ring gGmbH in the social sector.
