Mario Kramp (born May 7, 1961 in Euskirchen ) is a German art historian with a focus on German and French art history. Since June 15, 2010 he has been director of the Cologne City Museum .

Career

Kramp completed a teaching degree in history and art at RWTH Aachen from 1980 to 1987 , followed by a doctoral degree in Middle and New History , Art History and Ancient History until 1993. In his dissertation in 1993, he dealt with the relationship between politics and church building in early French Gothic in the Capetian Empire. From 1992 to 1993 he carried out a research project at the Center for Gay History in Cologne. After staying in Paris in 1994 as a research fellow from the German Historical Institute and the French Ministry of Science ( Maison des Sciences de l'Homme ), he received his doctorate in 1995 at RWTH Aachen University. For his dissertation he received the Borchers plaque from RWTH Aachen University in 1996 for special scientific achievements.

From 1994 to 1997 Kramp was a research assistant at the Cologne City Museum , during which he was responsible for the exhibition and publication Chlodwig and the Battle of Zülpich , among other things .

From 1998 to 2001, Kramp organized the exhibition Coronations as a curator . Kings in Aachen - history and myth in Aachen and was a scientific employee of the Aachen Department of Culture from 2001 to 2002. In 2000 he also developed a concept for the Carnival Museum in Cologne and then worked as a research assistant for the city of Aachen in the planning group for the Center for European History in the Department of Culture. From 2002 to 2010, Kramp was director of the Middle Rhine Museum in Koblenz. There he organized exhibitions on Rhenish art and cultural history with a focus on the city of Koblenz and the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley . Topics included the Middle Ages , Baroque , Rhine romanticism , the Loreley , the end of the war in 1945 and the 60th birthday of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . He is also a lecturer in art studies at the University of Koblenz-Landau .

As the successor to Werner Schäfke , Mario Kramp took up his post as director of the Cologne City Museum on June 15, 2010. Since then he has been campaigning for a new staging of the permanent exhibition and in 2011 presented a feasibility and concept study based on an extension.

In addition to organizing numerous exhibitions on the Rhenish cultural history from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, Kramp is the author and editor of books, catalogs and scientific articles on Rhenish art and cultural history, the reception of the Middle Ages in the 19th century and German-French cultural transfer.
