The Rhenish crooked stalk is a variety of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica).

history

The old, robust fruit variety has been known for over 200 years and probably comes from the Cologne / Bonn area.

description

Fruit properties

The winter apple is suitable for permanent storage. The apple can be harvested from the middle to the end of October, but it is not ripe until December and can be eaten until May.

The medium-sized apple is built a little higher and has a brown-red marbling with a light green base color. The shell is comparatively hard.

The variety is used as table and commercial apples. The taste is slightly sour to sweet, with a pleasant apple aroma. However, the variety has a comparatively low vitamin C content. The variety is suitable as a pollinator ( diploid ).

tree

The tree is widespread throughout Germany, especially in the west and south-west. The variety is initially vigorous and forms a large and overhanging crown. The yield starts late, but then delivers large harvests later. The Rhenish crooked stalk develops very large trees that are preferably used as high trunks and require sufficient tree spacing.

Care & Vulnerabilities

The Rhenish Krummstiel is a very robust variety and hardly develops any diseases.

Variety determination

Confused varieties are the Rheinische Bohnapfel and the Winterprinzenapfel .
