history

The uncovered oval with up to 15-20 stone steps was built between 1953 and 1956, named after the Rheinpreußen colliery . The Rheinpreußen Stadium was officially inaugurated in 1959 during an international athletics match for women “Germany - Czechoslovakia” in front of 25,000 spectators (the stadium's official capacity is now estimated at 23,000). The first soccer game was the test encounter between TuS Meerbeck and Homberger SV .

In addition to the soccer field, an ash court, three tennis courts and an archery range have been added to the sports grounds over the years.
