Rhipsalis burchellii is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Rhipsalis burchellii grows epiphytically with numerous, weak, drooping, richly branched shoots arranged in whorls or fork-shaped branching . Compound areoles sit on the shoot tips . The light green to slightly purple colored shoots are long, twisting, very slender and hardly succulent. The main shoots are up to 60 centimeters long. The outermost side shoots reach a length of 6 centimeters and a diameter of 1 to 2 millimeters. The areoles are covered with wool, but not covered with bristles.

The bell-shaped, whitish flowers often appear in large numbers at the shoot tips. They are up to 15 millimeters long. The fruits are bright reddish magenta to a little purple magenta.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Rhipsalis burchellii is common in the Brazilian states of São Paulo , Paraná and probably Santa Catarina at altitudes above 900 meters.

The first description was in 1923 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
