The Rhode Island School of Design Museum (RISD Museum) is one of the most important art museums in the United States . It is located on the east coast in Providence , the capital of the state of Rhode Island .

The museum was in 1877 as an institution of Rhode Iceland School of Design founded (RISD) and is located on the campus of this very prestigious Art Academy , which for their master's program for Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is nationally known in the US. The campus is directly connected to that of Brown University .

Collections

The museum is one of the largest art museums in the United States. In addition to the ancient art of Europe, the art of Asia and Africa, the collection holdings also include the local ancient art of North and South America. A regional focus, beginning in the 17th century, is on furniture from Goddard and Townsend from Newport to Paul Revere and Thomas Cole and the portrait painter Gilbert Stuart to American impressionists such as Noble Barlow . The museum's international must-sees include works by Édouard Manet , Claude Monet , Pablo Picasso , Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Andy Warhol . In total, the collections consist of over 80,000 works of art.
