Rhodia SA , based in Courbevoie near Paris, was a listed chemical group that was created in 1998 by hiving off the chemicals, fibers and polymers divisions from the Rhône-Poulenc group when the latter merged with the then Hoechst to form Aventis . In 2011 the group was taken over by the Belgian company Solvay for 3.4 billion euros .

Fields of activity

Rhodia is a specialty chemicals company with core competencies in application-oriented chemistry and fine chemistry as well as in the field of specialty materials and services .

The group operates in seven business areas, which are combined into three groups:

Performance Materials

  • Rhodia polyamides
The world's second largest manufacturer of polyamides in 2004, sells technical plastics in the automotive, electrical engineering & electronics, consumer & industrial goods markets, special fibers and yarns for tires and airbags, as well as fibers and microfibers for flock surfaces and floor coverings.
Rhodia Acetow is one of the three market leaders for cellulose acetate fibers for the manufacture of cigarette filters.

Functional Chemicals

  • Rhodia Novecare
Novecare develops surfactants , phosphorus derivatives, bio-polymers (guar and guar derivatives) as well as special monomers and polymers for numerous areas of application such as detergents and cleaning agents, cosmetics, oil extraction, agrochemicals, textile auxiliaries , water treatment and metalworking.
  • Rhodia Silcea
With rare earths, silicates and silicones, Silcea is active in the automotive (especially exhaust gas reduction, airbags, seals), tires, electronics, building materials industry, health care, paper and textile coatings markets.

  • Rhodia Eco Services
Eco Services is a market leader in sulfuric acid recycling and offers its customers, especially refineries, a complete, environmentally friendly and cost-effective service, from collecting the used sulfuric acid to delivering fresh sulfuric acid.
  • Rhodia Organics
With the product lines diphenols and derivatives, aliphatic isocyanates, trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and derivatives as well as salicylates, Rhodia Organics is active in the markets of flavors & fragrances, paints and varnishes for industrial applications, polymerization inhibitors, electronics and agrochemicals.
