Rhossili Down
Rhossili Down is a chain of hills about 4 kilometers long west of the village of Rhossili on the Gower peninsula in South Wales . The Beacon as part of Rhossili Down is the highest point on Gower with 193 m ASL . When the weather is good and visibility is clear, Rhossili Down offers an overview of Gower as a whole and as far as the Black Mountains northeast of Cardiff . On Rhossili Down there are remains of a gun system from World War II, of which the concrete foundations are still left. A display board explains details of the former facility.
Rhossili Down is also a popular starting point for hang-gliders and paragliders (see also the English version of Rhossili).
Tourist importance
Rhossili Down is a popular hiking area, signposted hiking trails lead from there to the mouth of the River Loughor in a north-westerly direction, in an easterly direction to Oxwich and beyond. There's a National Trust station .
