RiAFP

RiAFP (H4)

RiAFP is a group of anti-freeze proteins (AFP) from the longhorn beetle Rhagium inquisitor .

properties

The six RiAFPs described so far have a mass of about 12.5 to 12.8 kilodaltons , an isoelectric point above eight and several repetitions of the amino acid sequence Tx TxTxT at irregular intervals. RiAFP (H4) has one of the most regular protein structures of all proteins examined so far. RiAFP still have no homologies to known proteins.

The anti-freeze proteins from beetles are among those with the strongest thermal hysteresis effect , with Tenebrio molitor it is about a hundred times stronger than with the anti-freeze proteins from polar fish and, at a concentration of 1 mg / ml, leads to a reduction in the freezing point of 5 , 5 ° C.
