Omar al-Qattan

Omar al-Qattan ( Arabic عمر القطان, DMG ʿUmar al-Qaṭṭān ; * May 4, 1964 in Beirut , Lebanon ) is a Kuwaiti film producer and director ("Chairman of the Board") of the AM Qattan Foundation .

Life

al-Qattan's parents are from Palestine . They met and married in Kuwait, where both worked as teachers. His father, Abdel Mohsin al-Qattan (died 2017 in London), first became a state employee in Kuwait and later a building contractor. He is the founder of the AM Qattan Foundation .

The year Omar al-Qattan was born, his parents were naturalized in Kuwait. The family lived in Beirut for the next 11 years until the outbreak of civil war . Omar was sent to England and attended boarding school there until 1982.

Omar al-Qattan has been involved in filmmaking since 1987. During his time at the Institut national supérieur des arts du spectacle et des techniques de diffusion (INSAS) film school in Brussels , he directed various short documentaries and his first feature film, La Danse . At the beginning of his studies, the Palestinian director Michel Khleifi was his teacher. He has produced several films with Khleifi to this day.

In 1991, al-Qattan settled in London , where he and Khleifi founded a production company, Sourat UK , in 1992 , which was renamed Sindibad Films Ltd in 1993 .

Since 2000, Omar al-Qattan has been taking care of his father's foundation.
