Michel Khleifi

Michel Khleifi (born November 3, 1950 in Nazareth , Israel ) is a Palestinian screenwriter , film director and film producer .

Life

Khleifi studied television and theater directing at the Belgian Institute national supérieur des arts du spectacle (INSAS) in Brussels . After graduating there he worked for Belgian television before starting to produce his own documentaries and feature films. At the same time he taught at INSAS and was, among other things, the teacher of the Palestinian film producer and patron Omar al-Qattan . Khleifi still teaches at the university today (2015).

Since the 1980s, several of Khleifi's films have received awards at international film festivals. His film Route 181: Fragments of a Journey in Palestine, Israel , co-produced with Israeli director Eyal Sivan in 2003 and co-produced by Omar al-Qattan , was broadcast in the same year on the Franco-German television station Arte . After that it was discussed controversially, especially in France .
